Volunteer Coaching : Information and Application for Athletics
Who can volunteer?
Parents, college students and interested individuals are welcome. Volunteers may participate as a group (please indicate on application) or as individuals.
Our Expectations
All volunteer coaches for ASU Preparatory Academy: Polytechnic Campus are expected to understand, follow and role model the core values of the ASU Preparatory Athletics Program. These include an emphasis on Sportsmanship, Opportunity, Fun and Instruction. We believe in WINNING DISCIPLINE. We believe that winning has less to do with the scoreboard and more to do with these core values. We believe in trying to develop a lifelong passion in being active, whether in sports, the arts, science or nature. We feel that sports provide unique and valuable opportunities in creating confidence, social skills and fun. Our programs strive to focus on the development of youths as people as much as athletes.
Basic Requirements
* Enjoy working with youth and providing them with positive learning experiences.
* Schedule, organize and attend at least 4 practices per week.
* Supervise student athletes until they are picked up by parent or guardian.
* Help secure practice and competition facilities.
* Coach at all regular season and post season competitions.
* Attend the Canyon Athletic Association pre-season coaches meeting.
* Set up and attend an ‘End Of The Season’ awards celebration.
* Attend end-of-season evaluation meeting.
* Volunteer coaching candidates MUST be at least 18 years of age and present a valid Arizona
Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.
* Volunteer coaching candidates are encouraged to hold a current CPR and First Aid certification.
* Volunteer coaching candidates MUST refrain from smoking while coaching with ASU Preparatory Academy.
* Volunteer coaching candidates are required to abide by the ASU Preparatory Academy Athletics Code of Conduct.
* ALL Coaches and Volunteer coaching candidates MUST take the NFHS Fundamentals Of Coaching Online Class or the Positive Coaching Alliance Fundamentals Of

NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Class Requirement
Effective immediately the CAA requires that all coaches take the online NFHS Core Courses: Fundamentals of Coaching course. (http://www.nfhslearn.com/) All coaches must have their certificate on file with the league office before they may coach any regular season contest at any level (JH, JV or HS).
Fingerprint Clearance Card for Education Volunteers: Instructions
You may go to any fingerprinting location. The prices vary for the actual fingerprinting service, but it is generally around $15.00 - $20.00.
You MUST also take a $65.00 cashier’s check or money order payable to DPS. (AZ Department of Public Safety). This is the cost for volunteers.
You will need to fill out the IVP Clearance card packet for Arizona DPS. If you go to the Community Wellness and Safety of Arizona location, they have the packets available at no additional charge at their location.
Once you are fingerprinted, and have filled out the IVP form, the agency will put your form, the $65.00 cashier’s check or money order, and your actual fingerprint card in an envelope, seal it, and mail it to DPS. There is a strict chain of custody with your fingerprints that they must follow. They will give you the yellow and pink copy of the IVP form for your records. Once you receive your actual DPS fingerprint clearance card, please submit a copy to the school with this application.

CDC Heads up concussion training:
Each coach must complete the online CDC Heads Up Concussion Training once per year and submit the certificate of completion to the Athletic Director prior to the season.
Coaching certification:
ALL Coaches MUST take the NFHS Fundamentals Of Coaching Online Class ($35.00) or the Positive Coaching Alliance Fundamentals Of Coaching Class ($30.00 face-to-face course) and submit the Certificate of Completion for the class to the Athletic Director prior to the season.
